Giving Back: PSF Bloomington Supports Local Troops Overseas This Holiday Season
This holiday season, Bloomington’s own Jared Gahm, a dedicated Jiu-Jitsu coach and personal fitness trainer, is making a meaningful impact by giving back to the brave men and women serving our country overseas. Through his initiative at Legacy Training and Jiu Jitsu, Gahm is raising funds and collecting goods to support local troops who will be away from their families during Christmas.
A Personal Connection
With a strong personal connection to the troops he supports, Gahm has previously coached many of these soldiers and continues to keep in touch as they serve in various capacities. “I enjoy seeing them grow and thrive in their roles,” he shared. This close relationship fuels his passion for giving back, especially during the holidays when many service members are unable to be with their families.
Growing Community Support
Having started this fundraiser five years ago, Gahm has witnessed its growth thanks to the generous support from the local community. This year, he has set an ambitious goal of raising $5,000 to purchase items from the soldiers’ wish lists. The plan is to wrap, pack, and send these gifts overseas, ensuring that the troops feel remembered and appreciated during the holiday season.
“This whole fundraiser isn’t about me at all,” Gahm emphasized. “It’s about the guys who aren’t here; it’s about how the local community can help the local troops, and I’m just the guy that’s collecting and sending it to these individuals that I have coached.”
Incentives for Giving
To encourage participation, Gahm has introduced a friendly competition: whoever raises the highest amount of money will receive a plaque as recognition for their efforts. This adds an exciting element to the fundraiser while fostering camaraderie among participants.
How to Contribute
Community members wishing to support this initiative can donate in various ways. Gahm accepts cash and checks, as well as digital payments via Venmo or PayPal. Additionally, donated goods from the wishlist are welcome, providing an opportunity for individuals to contribute in a tangible way.
Those interested in donating or learning more about how they can help are encouraged to reach out to Gahm through Facebook.
